The Gautham Menon directed Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya with Silambarasan and Trisha will hit the screens in January 2010, perhaps for Pongal. Music for the film scored by A R Rahman will be released in December. It is worth a mention here that the songs of the film are the latest favorites of Trisha. Silambarasan is waiting for the film’s release as VTV is expected to change his image for the better.

Rahman in White House

A R Rahman has done it again! After spelling a magic at the Academy Awards this year winning two Oscars, A R Rahman was the star attraction at the White House in Washington.

Rahman was among the select few Indians who were specially invited by President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. Oscar winner Rahman also provided part of the entertainment that also included Jennifer Hudson.

The Mozart of Madras as usual stunned the gathering with a musical performance which included a special song “Jai Ho” from ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ that fetched him an Oscar.

The dinner was hosted to coincide with Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's visit to the country. The guests were chosen by a special team appointed by Obama. On the occasion, Rahman was felicitated by Obama and Manmohan Singh.

Revisiting "Alaipayuthey"(2000) Respledant Romance

"Waves"!! The very word generates curiosity and excitement among the admirers for its back and front motions which is so synonymous to the journey of human life : Ups and downs / pleasures and sorrows. Sticking to its title, the gifted film maker Manirathnam brings the waves of the life alive on the celluloid screen. The screenplay of the movie can be termed as One of the best ever any Indian cinema has produced. The plot carries the audience mind to the wavy structure of past and present stories of the lead pair of the movie.

While Madhavan, Shalini, Jayasudha, Swarnamalya amongst others form the crux part of the story line, Arvind Swamy and Kushboo portray as cameo characters for the movie.

Manirathnam, who was lying low, with his shocking back-to-back failures of Iruvar and Dil Se at the box office, found solace with Alaipayuthey, categorized as one of the BEST coming out from the ace filmmaker. For me personally, the film's main strength lies in two things. One is the apt screenplay and the second, ofcourse, the music by the whizkid A.R.Rahman. The movie was well received by critics and did well at the box-office primarily for its music and realistic portrayal of romance and married life.

Manirathnam's crew members are always as impressive as this one : P.C. Sreeram (Cinematography) , G. Sreenivasan(Co-Production), Vairamuthu(Lyrics), Farah Khan (Choreography) amongst others. Ofcourse, standing tall is the Mani - ARR chemistry as always! ARR has written one of his career best tunes for this light hearted romance genre which blends like bread and the butter. The songs and the BGM's are like precious treasures to be preserved through out the lifetime. Below, i present my personal unbiased opinions about the soundtracks and BGMs of the movie .

Endrendrum Punnaghai Shankar Mahadevan, Clinton Cerejo, Srinivas, Pravin Mani

This introductory song of the movie introduced one of the promising actors, Madhavan to the audience grooving to the great tunes through his earphones on the bike. Such an effect it had, that many youngsters got inspired with the style and pomp created by this song and followed it blindly. A great chartbuster song composed by ARR targeting youth in his mind. A fresh sounding Shankar Mahadevan and Clinton Cerejo(who's been a part of chorus in ARR troup since long) set the mood so vehementally that you cant help but tap your foot and groove. Shankar's strong vocals are most predominant in "Dheem dheem Tarana dheem tarana....vaaname elleyoo...". A funky, upbeat, true to the style of the maestro!

The Jai Ho Poem: BY A R Rahman

The Jai Ho Poem: BY A R Rahman (The poem will played on the screen before the Concert Starts) .

"It gets me Dizzy
Like being in the middle of a hurricane,
So many of you, your love, your energy,
Difficult for me to compare it all.

BUT,

On the Other hand
It inspires
And shall be my biggest high!

As i get older i see other points of ...you
Things i wouldn't have noticed Before.

If music wakes you up,
Makes you think,
Heals you!
I guess the music is "working.........."
And then,
A thought put in action in a positive way
is a Blessing Thought"

Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya ~ In December

After the stupendous success of the film Vaaranam Aayiram starring Surya, Sameera Reddy and others, Gautham Vasudev Menon is currently directing a breezy entertainer titled “Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaayaa” starring Silambarasan and Trisha in the lead.

The film which has been under production has been shot extensively at Chennai, Kerala and Malta. With an urban look to it, the story is set between two young people who fall in love. The film is almost complete with some portions and the climax to be shot. The authenticity and mood of the film is maintained by shooting at some realistic ambience in and around Chennai and some picturesque locations at Allepey, Kerala.

A much awaited musical from the Oscar Award Winning Composer A R Rahman, the film is sure to churn out some magic in its own special way, rendering some unforgettable and soulful numbers in the composer’s style, shot to the creative visuals of Director Gautham. The musical got a shot in the arm when Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaayaa’s music director A R Rahman was nominated for 3 Oscars and bagged two.

With five song situations in the film, three songs have been composed already, out of which two songs have been shot extensively in Malta at some virgin locations.

The song “Hosanaa”, sung by Vijay Prakash of “Jai Ho” fame, penned to the lyrics of Thamarai and a rap by Blaze is a sure hit among the young crowd for its peppy beats and stunning visuals shot by Manoj Paramahamsa at Malta corresponding to the stylized choreography by Flexy Stu of Adiye Kolluthey fame.“Omana Penne” written by Thamarai too and sung by A R Rahman himself, holds a style of its own in the way it has been sung and programmed.
