This year A.R. Rahman got two nods from the Academy Awards for the movie ‘127 Hours’. Last time in 2009 the composer received two of those coveted golden statues for ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. So one just keeps wondering whether this time too golden run would continue or not?
‘Slumdog Millionaire’ directed by Danny Boyle gave the singer composer to bag the Oscars for ‘Best Original Music Score’ and ‘Best Original Song’ “Jai Ho” which he had to share with the lyricist Gulzar. This time around its once again a Danny Boyle movie ‘127 Hours’ based on the real life mountain climber Aron Ralston’s experience of being trapped in the Canyonlands National Park in Utah. The film had James Franco in the lead.
The film has bagged six nominations altogether which includes Best Actor, Best Picture, Best Film Editing, Best Adapted Screenplay and two others are for Rahman. One is Best Original Score and the other is Best Original Song “If I Raise” sung by Dido. Rahman will face-off with John Powell for ‘How to Train Your Dragon’, the legendary Hans Zimmer for ‘Inception’, 2011 Golden Globe winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of ‘The Social Network’ and Alexandre Deesplat for ‘The King’s Speech’ in the ‘Best Music (Original Score).
In the other category Music (Original Song) the Mozart of Madras will have to fight it out with his “If I Raise” from ‘127 Hours’ with “Coming Home” from the Gwyneth Paltrow starrer ‘Country Song’, “I See the Light” from the film ‘Tangled”. Even the toys will from the “Toy Story 3’ will give a tough competition in this section with the number “We belong together”. It now remains to be seen on Feb 27 whether A.R. Rahman can take home the Oscars again or not.
